Google Groups Bring Back The Past

You've probably used the Google search engine to search web sites. Next time, click the Groups tab at the top of the Google page to search an archive of the Usenet News Groups, a part of the Internet that preceeded the Web by many years. Be sure to try the Advanced Search which lets you narrow your search by date, subject, author, etc.

Brevard Newsgroup Discussions

Newsgroups, archived by Google, show you up-to-date discussions on just about every subject. This new link, featured in our "Quickies" section, shows you the latest discussions related to Brevard County.

Big news on the Internet is the Wayback Machine found at the Internet Archive. It's a remarkable collection of web pages copied during the early days of the World Wide Web. There are also interesting collections of web pages related to news events.

1895 Florida Map showing local towns...

We've found a good map of Florida from 1895 clearly showing local communities. It seems that Brevard County included much of what is now Indian River and St. Lucie Counties. This is a very large file (1.6 Mb) so it may take a while to download on a modem connection. This map was found on The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory web site. This link will be added to the Information Section of our Brevard Links pages.
